UCC honours Oguaamanhen Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II

The honorary award is in recognition of the distinguished service by Osabarimba to the university, the Central Region, Ghana and the world at large, but particularly his commitment to promoting peace, unity and development

The University of Cape Coast has conferred an honorary degree of law on the paramount chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II.

The honorary award is in recognition of his distinguished service to the university, the Central Region, Ghana and the world at large, and particularly for his commitment to promoting peace, unity and development.

The chancellor of the university, Sir Sam Esson Jonah, in his address, commended the Omanhen for his outstanding leadership in ensuring that the university has lived in harmony with surrounding communities over the years.

“Osabarimba’s love for Cape Coast, his contributions to the university, his role in promoting regional unity and peace, and his advocacy for local development make him an exemplary honoree. Indeed, this honour is long overdue,” Dr Jonah said.

The vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong, restated the school’s continuous commitment to recognising and rewarding individuals who contribute to the advancement of society.

He further noted that traditional rulers play an important role in the lives of many Africans.

“In many countries, traditional rulers play a prominent role as mediators of violent conflict and champion community development and transformation,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II expressed his gratitude to the management of the university for the recognition.

“What is happening today is an act of God and I give God all the honour,” he said.

Osabarimba further promised to continue to ensure the school lives in harmony with neighbouring communities.

“I want to assure you that I will spend all the time available to make sure whatever it is that is bothering the smooth academic teaching and peaceful existence of this institution [is resolved],” he said.

The Omanhen, who is an accountant by profession, further pledged to reward the best graduating student in accounting each year with a sum of GHC2,000.
