World Water Day: GWL warns of upward adjustment in tariff if…

The warning comes as Ghana joins the rest of the globe to commemorate World Water Day on the theme "Water for Peace"

The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has sounded a caution that it may adjust its tariff upward if water bodies are not effectively managed in the country.

The warning comes as Ghana joins the rest of the globe to commemorate World Water Day today on the theme ” Water for Peace”.

The GWL had earlier expressed grave concern at the high turbidity of the River Pra at Daboase and Sekyere in the Western and Central Regions, warning that if stringent measures were not taken, the company’s cost of production could continue to rise.

Speaking to Benjamin Offei-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (22 March), the communication manager of GWL, Stanley Martey called for a concerted effort to effectively protect water bodies in the country.

“In the last two to three years, we have experienced some areas having their water bodies dried up entirely, so we have had to shut down because there was no water for treatment,” he said.

“If we keep our water bodies clean and use less chemicals, it will make the cost of production quite low or manageable for all of us but if we do not do it that way, then it means we have to pay more for water.”

Martey added “… it is important that we manage our water bodies effectively so that we can have the cost of production down so it can impact positively on our price.”
