North East Region: First batch of emergency relief items arrive

The first set of relief items included plastic buckets, bags of polished rice, boxes of Queen Pure vegetable cooking oil, tea cups, plastic plates etc

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO)Ā has airlifted the first batch of relief items to Walewale, to support residents who were affected by flood waters on Wednesday (9 August 2023).

The items were sent to the region via helicopter on Friday (11 August 2023).

The director general of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh presenting the items to the North East Regional Minister said “A few days ago, we received reports that the people of the North East Region have been hit with a major disaster.

“His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and the government took a decision that they would respond immediately.”

“The items you see here are not the items the government is bringing to the people of North East Region, but because of the emergency, the Ghana Airforce assisted NADMO and we’ve been able to bring a lot of disaster relief items to Tamale Airport. So, they are bringing them in batches,” he said.

The North East Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria thanked the president, the vice-president, and the Disaster Management Organization directorate for their swift response to support the victims who were hit by the flood waters in the region.
